Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Zack Steffen drives community forward
Since his return to MLS, using his platform to give back to the community has remained a priority for Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Zack Steffen.

Steffen had a breakout 2017 where he started every single regular season and playoff game for the Black & Gold. With the confidence gained from last year, the young goalkeeper built upon it to really blossom in 2018, eventually earning 2018 Allstate MLS Goalkeeper of the Year honors.
INTERNATIONAL: Steffen has earned six caps with the US men's national team, making his debut as a substitute in a friendly match against Bosnia-Herzegovina on January 28, 2018. He then started in a friendly against Paraguay on March 27, 2018. Most recently, Steffen started in a friendly against France on June 9, 2018, registering seven saves en route to helping the U.S. earn a 1-1 draw. Steffen started in friendlies against Brazil on September 7, 2018 and against Mexico on September 11, 2018. Against Mexico, Steffen earned his second shutout victory for the Stars and Stripes. Most recently, Steffen started in a friendly against Colombia (October 11, 2018). A former U.S. youth international, Steffen played for the United States Under-23s in a friendly against England’s U-21s on September 3, 2015 in Preston, England. Prior to that, Steffen shined with the USA’s U-20s, for which he has earned 11 caps. He was the team’s primary goalkeeper at the 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, where he helped the USA qualify for the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup. At that tournament, Steffen again was the primary goalkeeper as the USA advanced to the Quarterfinals. The goalkeeper also appeared for the USA U-18s. On May 16, 2016, Steffen was called-up by United States Men's National Team head coach Jürgen Klinsmann for a transitional camp.
OUTSIDE MLS: Steffen began his professional career when he signed for German side SC Freiburg on December 12, 2014. He made his debut for the reserve side on August 1, 2015, keeping a clean sheet against Saarbrücken in the Regionalliga Südwest. All-told, he made 14 appearances during his first full professional season with SC Freiburg II, registering three shutouts.
COLLEGE: Steffen played for the University of Maryland in 2013 and 2014, logging every minute in goal for the Terrapins over those two seasons. He recorded 17 clean sheets over his tenure and was named to the ACC All-Freshman team in 2013. He also captured NCAA Championship Most Valuable Defensive Player honors that season, and was named the Most Valuable Defensive Player of the Big Ten Tournament in 2014.
